Balut

never looked better than at 2pm and then later at 2 am on the pier in Vietnam.

Don't tell the Rubber Duckie, but the mysterious Balut is really a fertilized duck egg, 18 days ripe.

Despite horror stories they have been telling me about it, it doesn't look so bad after all. As long as you ignore the viscous fluid eagerly sucked from the open shell.

That's the chick on the left. Is that an eye I see?

The chick, further dissected. Is that a claw?

I think I might try one some day. After all, it's just half egg... and half duck!
